New Playground
South Newton students and staff began the week with a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new playground. Watch the video below to see our student and staff leaders explain "the right way" to use the equipment.

Congratulations to Mrs. Julia Styers, Newton-Conover City Schools 2014-2015 Principal of the Year! Also, congratulations to Mrs. Christy Buff, Newton-Conover City Schools 2014-2015 Teacher of the Year! Both of these ladies are very deserving of these awards. All South Newton Tigers roar with pride in saying, “We love you, Mrs. Styers and Mrs. Buff, and we think You’re GRRRREAT!”

News from Mrs. C. Styers' Kindergarten Class

Today we had a leader from our community visit SNES. Pastor Ivey from Christ Alive Church in Newton came to talk to Kindergartners about being proactive. He taught us some very valuable lessons. Pastor Ivey taught us that we cannot blame others for our wrong actions. We also learned how important it is to do the right thing when nobody is watching. Our classroom mission statement says we will always do our very very best. We will strive each day to Be Proactive and stay in charge of ourselves! We will do the right thing when nobody is watching. We are the leaders of our own lives!

Leader in Me
The Leader in Me is a school-wide model based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids. This model promotes a school culture built on leadership and community. The goal is to create a learning environment focused on the whole individual and his or her place in the classroom and in the community at large.

South Newton is just beginning the first year of implementation. Faculty and staff attended four intensive days of training during the summer of 2014 in preparation for school-wide deployment in the 2014-2015 school year. Everyone is eager to model and to teach the 7 Habits to each and every child in our school family! Stay tuned on our progress by clicking on the page link on the left.
A great big "THANK YOU!" to Chief Kevin Yoder and volunteers from the Newton Fire Department for coming to the rescue at the last minute to wash our parking lots and sidewalks before Open House! Also, many thanks to Deputy Chief  Major Tim Hayes (Newton Police Department and member of the NCCS Board of Education), Captain Mike Sullivan (Newton Police), Todd Clark (Newton City Manager), Dr. Sylvia White (Director of Human Resources at NCCS), and Robin Rudisill, (Director of Maintenance at NCCS)! Grrrrrreat job, everyone!

New Beginnings!

Julia Styers
, NCCS Principal of the Year and South Newton's lead administrator, shared successes from 2013-2014 with faculty and staff on Wednesday, August 20th. She also presented 2014-2015 goals from the school improvement team to the staff.

All of the adult tigers at South Newton were excited about the beautiful new facility and about the Leader in Me initiative that will be new at South Newton this year. Everyone is looking forward to seeing South Newton's little tigers and their parents on Sunday, August 24th, at 3pm for the new school dedication and open house.
