Learning is for Teachers, Too!

áá á

South Newton classroom teachers spent the afternoon of March 20 discussing and learning ways to integrate the seven habits of Leader in Me into every subject in their classrooms. Everyone shared personal and classroom successes with the habits, and each teacher gained new ideas to further support their students in the development of the habits.

Congratulations to our AWESOME TEAM! áWe are so proud of you! Our team will represent Newton-Conover City Schools in the regional competition in April.

Lego Learning Challenges

Say "Hello" to South Newton's Master Lego Architect,áDylan Lee. Dylan and his fellow students have been working hard in the media center on Lego Learning challenges. This week the assignment was to build a bridge, so Dylan and his classmates learned about several architectural and engineering concepts including cantilevers, weight distribution, and counter weights. Dylan showed amazing creativity and ability to lead other students who were willing to help him. Nice work, Dylan!á

Battle of the Books Fun

On Friday, March 6, South Newton's Battle of the Books team attended a lock-in at Claremont Elementary school with five other Catawba County teams. The students participated in mock battles and played games such as Twister, Bingo, Picture It, andáBookga. South Newton's team came iná2nd place in the friendly competition . Everyone had an amazing time!

The Leader in Meáis a school-wide model based on Stephen Covey'sá7 Habits of Happy Kids. This model promotes a school culture built on leadership and community. The goal is to create a learning environment focused onáthe whole individual and his or her place in the classroom and in the community at large.

South Newton is just beginning the first year of implementation. Faculty and staff attended four intensive days of training during the summer of 2014 in preparation for school-wideádeployment in the 2014-2015 school year. Everyone is eager to model and to teach the 7 Habits to each and every child in our school family! Stay tuned on our progress by clicking on the page link on the left.
